Virginia Immunization Plan

December 2025, Richmond, VA — Vaccines have been credited with stopping the spread of highly infectious diseases and preventing countless deaths. However, vaccination rates throughout the country, including Virginia, have been declining. While this trend pre-dated the COVID-19 pandemic, it has accelerated since. Furthermore, disparities in vaccination rates persist across racial, ethnic, and geographic communities. Even small decreases in vaccination rates present significant risks for spreading infectious diseases to our communities, as evidenced by the rise in highly infectious diseases like measles and pertussis.

To facilitate a coordinated response across the Commonwealth, ImmunizeVA developed a statewide immunization plan. The Virginia Immunization Plan (VIP) aims to provide a roadmap for communities, policymakers, healthcare providers, and the public health workforce to improve immunization rates across the lifespan for residents of Virginia.
